Behind the First-Ever LINNEA Advent Calendar: Two Years in the Making
Some ideas arrive fully formed. Others reveal themselves slowly.
The first-ever LINNEA Advent Calendar belongs to the latter.
Nearly two years in the making, 12 Days of LINNEA began with an idea that felt both simple and ambitious: What if an Advent could open the door to the entire World of LINNEA?
Not simply twelve things to unwrap. Not a collection of samples. And not a traditional candle Advent calendar filled with smaller versions of what you already know.
We imagined something more immersive.
Twelve full-size experiences. Fragrance for the home. Objects for gathering. Rituals for the everyday. A few surprises created exclusively for the Advent.
Together, they tell a larger story about the way we experience fragrance and the role it can play in the moments we remember.
Creating a Fragrance Advent Calendar, the LINNEA Way
From the beginning, we knew our first fragrance Advent calendar had to feel unmistakably LINNEA.
Fragrance has always been where our story begins, but never where it ends.
A candle changes the atmosphere of a room. A room spray can shift a space in an instant. Hand care turns one of the day’s most familiar gestures into an aromatic ritual. An object placed on a table can become part of the way people gather, celebrate and remember a season.
That thinking became the foundation of the Advent.
Instead of approaching each opening individually, we considered how all twelve could work together. What should feel familiar? What should surprise you? Which fragrances belong to this particular time of year? Which everyday objects could become part of the experience?
Most importantly, how could opening the Advent feel like entering the World of LINNEA, one discovery at a time?
Why Every Discovery Is Full Size
This decision shaped the entire project.
Every one of the twelve discoveries inside the LINNEA Advent is a full-size experience.
We wanted each piece to become something you could truly live with, rather than something you would experience once and leave behind.
The result is part home fragrance Advent calendar, part collection of seasonal rituals, and part invitation to discover LINNEA in new ways.
Inside are four full-size candles in Midnight, Juletide, Forest Fir and Cashmere, moving from the deep atmosphere of winter nights to one of the fragrances that has defined LINNEA since 2009.
But the story extends far beyond candlelight.
There is a Hinoki Room Spray, bringing another form of home fragrance into the ritual. Heirloom Tomato Hand Wash brings scent sinkside. A Cashmere Hand Cream carries one of our most loved fragrances into a more personal moment of care.
Then come the objects: a Ceramic Fragrance Disc, Candle Care Kit, Nail Brush, limited-edition LINNEA Playing Cards, and a limited-edition LINNEA Matchbox.
Some scent the room. Some invite ritual. Some belong on the table. Some exist simply because gathering should have a little delight built into it.
That mix was intentional.
From Candle Advent Calendar to a World of Fragrance
Candles were naturally an important part of the collection. They are part of the foundation of LINNEA and one of the most evocative ways we know to experience fragrance.
But creating the Advent gave us an opportunity to tell a more expansive story.
LINNEA has always believed that scent can move through a home in different ways.
It can glow from a flame. It can linger gently in the air. It can be misted before guests arrive. It can live beside the sink. It can become associated with a room, a season, a dinner, a person or a memory.
That is why 12 Days of LINNEA was never intended to be simply another luxury candle Advent calendar.
It is an exploration of fragrance as atmosphere, ritual and experience.
Each opening adds another layer.
Choosing the Fragrances
With twelve opportunities to tell the story of LINNEA, choosing what belonged inside became part of the creative process.
Some fragrances immediately felt essential.
Cashmere has been part of LINNEA since the beginning. Warm and enveloping, it carries the feeling of home and familiarity that belongs naturally within the holiday season.
Forest Fir brings the outdoors in, capturing the evergreen character that has long made fragrance and the holidays inseparable.
Midnight brings a deeper, more atmospheric expression of the season.
And Juletide speaks directly to gathering, tradition and the anticipation that makes December feel unlike any other month.
Together, the candles do more than create four individual scent experiences. They create a progression through the season.
Elsewhere in the collection, Hinoki introduces another dimension through room spray, while Heirloom Tomato brings the unexpected greenness of the garden into winter through hand wash.
That contrast mattered to us.
A great fragrance collection should not simply confirm what you expect. It should occasionally open a door you did not know you wanted to walk through.
Designing Ritual Into the Experience
Advent itself is a ritual.
The act of returning each day, opening something slowly and allowing anticipation to build is what makes an Advent calendar different from an ordinary gift.
For LINNEA, that idea resonated deeply.
So much of what we create is connected to repetition: lighting a candle at the end of the day, refreshing a room before company arrives, washing your hands at the kitchen sink, trimming a wick before striking a match.
Small actions become familiar. Familiar actions become ritual.
The Advent gave us a way to bring those gestures together in one experience.
That is also why objects such as the Candle Care Kit, Nail Brush, Playing Cards and Matchbox belong beside fragrance.
They are invitations to do something.
Light. Care. Gather. Play. Stay a little longer.
A Christmas Advent Calendar Made to Live Beyond Christmas
We also wanted to challenge another familiar idea about Advent: that its purpose ends when December does.
The objects and fragrances inside 12 Days of LINNEA were selected because they can continue to become part of your home long after the final opening.
A candle burns into January. The fragrance disk finds a place in a drawer or closet. The nail brush stays sinkside. Playing cards return to the table the next time friends gather. Hand cream gets tucked into a bag. A favorite fragrance becomes one you return to.
For us, that is where the experience becomes most interesting.
The countdown ends. The rituals remain.
Laura Cler on Creating the First LINNEA Advent
For LINNEA CEO and Co-Founder Laura Cler, the project was ultimately about giving people a deeper way to experience a brand that has always been built around fragrance, memory and ritual.
“We spent nearly two years imagining what an Advent could feel like through the lens of LINNEA. We didn’t want to create a calendar of samples. We wanted each opening to feel generous and immersive, allowing you to truly live with the fragrances, objects and rituals that bring us joy. It became a way to open the doors to the World of LINNEA, one experience at a time.”
That idea became our guide throughout the process.
Not more for the sake of more. More to experience.

A New Holiday Tradition Begins
This is our first Advent.
Perhaps that is why it feels especially meaningful.
It gave us an opportunity to look at LINNEA from another perspective and ask what we would place behind twelve doors if each one could reveal something about who we are.
Fragrance, certainly. But also craftsmanship. Gathering. Care. Objects with purpose. The beauty of anticipation. And the idea that the smallest rituals are often the ones we remember most.
Twelve discoveries. One limited-edition Advent. A new way into the World of LINNEA.
